Murudeshwar is the launch point for diving at Netrani Island (also called Pigeon Island), a heart-shaped coral reef island roughly 10 nautical miles offshore and widely regarded as one of the best scuba diving sites on India's west coast. The waters around Netrani offer visibility up to 15–20 metres in season, coral gardens, reef fish, occasional reef sharks, and even shipwreck remains further out — a genuine surprise for a coastline better known for temples than diving.
Dives are run as full boat trips from Murudeshwar harbour — the journey out takes about 45 minutes to an hour by boat, with the dive and surface interval filling out the rest of a half-day excursion.
A supervised introductory dive for those with no certification — a short briefing on land, then a shallow guided dive (usually 6–12 metres) with a certified instructor by your side the whole time. No prior experience needed.
For divers who already hold an Open Water certification or above, deeper dives (up to 18–24 metres) around Netrani's reef walls and swim-throughs are available, with dive logs stamped on request.
For those who'd rather stay on the surface, snorkelling trips to the same reef offer a good look at coral and fish life without a tank — a cheaper, easier alternative that still departs by boat from Murudeshwar.

Fitness & health: Basic swimming ability is not always required for the discover dive but is recommended. Anyone with cardiac, respiratory, or ear conditions should consult a doctor before diving.
Sea conditions: Diving trips are weather-dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if the sea is rough, particularly just before or after monsoon (April–May, September). October to February offers the calmest water and best visibility.
