Book Murudeshwar ToursMurudeshwar is a small temple town on the Uttara Kannada coast, perched on Kanduka Hill with the Arabian Sea on three sides. It is named after Murudeshwara — a manifestation of Lord Shiva — and draws both pilgrims and tourists to its spectacular combination of religious significance and dramatic coastal scenery.
The defining image of Murudeshwar is its 123-foot Shiva statue — the second-tallest in India — rising from Kanduka Hill and visible from miles out to sea. The adjacent 20-floor gopuram of the Murudeshwar temple offers a panoramic view across the Arabian Sea, the Netrani Island to the south, and the Western Ghats to the east. Both landmarks were built by the late philanthropist RN Shetty.
Beyond the temple, Murudeshwar has become a gateway for Netrani Island scuba diving — one of India's best dive sites, where whale sharks, barracuda and rich coral gardens await beneath crystal-clear waters.
